Air Canada Aeroplan

Air Canada to Axe Aeroplan

Air Canada have announced they will not be renewing their contract with Aeroplan, meaning those of you with their current loyalty programme have until June 2020 to earn and redeem Aeroplan points with Star Alliance airlines. From 2020 onwards, those loyal to Air Canada’s programme will be able to earn and spend miles using their in-house loyalty programme.

The announcement saw Aimia’s stocks plummet (although Air Canada’s rose), and furious Air Canada loyalty members. The min reason for the anger with loyal flyers is due to the announcement from Air Canada that they won’t be transferring the points over from Aeroplan to their in-house loyalty programme, which means you’ll have to spend all of your Aeroplan points by June 2020.

Air Canada Aeroplan FAQS

So far analysts are claiming the change will be positive for Air Canada, and they’re promising a smooth transition. The move is an unusual one, as Aeroplan was originally Air Canada’s in-house loyalty programme, but was spun off into an independent business, which now has over 5 million members.

Let us know in the comments if this effects you, and what you’re planning to do with the programme and your points.
